The FIFA Women’s World Cup has been electrifying. But if you’ve found yourself squinting at the screen in an effort to determine who’s who on the field, you’re probably almost wishing the games away.

Nearsightedness (myopia) is a common vision condition in which near objects appear clear but objects farther away look blurry. It occurs when the eyeball is too long and/or the cornea is too curved. This causes light rays to bend inaccurately, so instead of focussing on the back of the eye (retina), they focus in front of the retina.

Do You Have Myopia?

If you have myopia, you’ll be fine reading a book or using a laptop, however, when it comes to watching The Matildas on TV, Oppenheimer at the movies, or searching for the detail on the road sign ahead, your vision will be blurry and you’ll feel the effects of eye strain.

You Can Correct for Myopia

To optimise your vision, you can choose to invest in contact lenses or glasses that provide comfortable distance and near vision.

Alternatively, you might like to consider laser refractive surgery which provides a permanent solution without the need to carry glasses or place contact lenses on your eyes every day.

SILK

There are several different types of refractive laser eye surgeries that can help improve or correct for myopia, one of which is Smooth Incision Lenticule Keratomileusis (SILK).

SILK is the latest evolution to an established surgical procedure that I’ve been performing for almost 10 years, and it’s the one that I am now performing in my practice at Bondi Junction.

Taking advantage of next-generation laser technology, SILK provides better preservation of the cornea’s biomechanical strength and promotes faster recovery than is the case with other procedures. It also results in less dry eye. All of which means my patients who undergo laser correction with SILK are more likely to get back to enjoying an active lifestyle with more comfortable vision in fast time.

Are You Suitable for SILK?

Of course, not all patients are suitable for laser refractive correction. But to find out whether you are, I invite you to make an appointment to see me. I’ll check your eye health and we will discuss the best approach to suit you and your lifestyle.
